The eye

The eyes are the most sensitive and delicate organ we posses. Threw them we can view the world and they are responsible for four fifths of all the information our brain receives and is why we rely on our eyesight more than any other sense.

EYE PROBLEM
The most common eye problems are being short sighted like me (myopia), this is where you can see up close and not far away. And long sighted (hypermetropia) where you can't see up close but you can see far away. There problems are both caused by the cornea and the lens not focusing on the retina.

Examples of both types below

Short sight means that the image is focused in front of the retina

Long sight is where the eyeball is too short or the lens too thin, causing the image to focus behind the retina.

Long sight means that the image is focused behind the retina

Both long and short sightedness can be overcome by wearing glasses.

This is what happened to me this summer, for the past 10 years my eyes have been getting worse and worse going from -1.5 to -3.5 which is quite bad and very hard to see without glasses. However after a recent test both my eyes have improved by +0.5 which proved why I am saying Eyes are good. I understand how eyesight can get worse threw old age, but i cant understand how your eyes can suddenly get better after all this time and think it is pretty amazing.

There are other sight-threatening conditions which are not so easily corrected or overcome.Cataract, trachoma, glaucoma and river blindness , for example, will cause complete blindness if left untreated. Sightsavers is preventing and curing these diseases and restoring sight where possible.
